ADVANCED COURSE IN DIABETES CARE FOR NURSING SPECIALTIES (ACDCNS)–2017

  • ADVANCED COURSE IN DIABETES CARE FOR NURSING SPECIALTIES (ACDCNS)–2017

Nurses, being the first point of contact with the patients, are responsible for monitoring blood glucose levels, managing insulin infusion, dealing with the complications and diabetic emergencies. In addition, they are also involved in educating the patients and their caregivers about the measures to manage diabetes effectively.

Considering the urgent need for building the capacity of nurses in effective management of diabetes, Chellaram Diabetes Institute (CDI), has developed a two-day “Advanced Course in Diabetes Care for Nursing Specialties (ACDCNS)”, which bridges the current gap in the domain of capacity building in diabetes management, by improving the knowledge and skills of the nurses.

The course provides a 360-degree view of all the different facets of diabetes across five modules, developed by experts at CDI. These include basics of diabetes covering the diagnostic criteria and basic clinical examination, diabetes management including pharmacologic as well as non-pharmacologic aspects, acute as well as chronic complications of diabetes, diabetic foot, infections in diabetes, gestational diabetes, diabetes management in the wards and ICU, etc.

A highlight of the course is allowing hands-on experience to the participants on aspects like insulin administration techniques, use of glucometers, continuous glucose monitoring, foot examination, etc.

The first cycle of the course was conducted on 14th and 15th November 2016, coinciding with the World Diabetes Day, and was met with an enthusiastic response from nursing institutes across Pune.

This year too, the course will be conducted at CDI, and we look forward to active participation from nurses and nursing students across Pune this time as well.
